Description

The Barnes Family Compound is steeped in history, spanning over several generations. It allstarted in 1953, when the first parcel of land was purchased and cleared for crops. The initialfarming was done with the help of a mule and plow, and by 1954, the first homestead wasestablished. As the years passed, the Barnes family continued to expand their farm. In 1963, theyconstructed their second homestead and purchased their first tractor, which allowed for rowcropping. By 1968, the farm had grown to 100 fenced acres, accommodating cows and hogs. Thenatural springs on the property provided water for the farm and the family, who built threelarge ponds and stocked them with catfish, bass, and bream.By 1977, five generations of the Barnes family lived and worked on the farm.
