The outside The Garden
In the Victorian era both gardens were part of a massive market garden, the remains of the Victorian potting shed and pig trough are still to be found in the bottom garden.

Stepping through the back gate, one is transported to a semi woodland garden. A large slated area provides a private and secluded corner idea for alfresco dining. The garden is mostly laid to lawn with a variety of evergreen and deciduous shrubs and trees including an ancient cooking apple tree and a hazelnut tree which help to form a natural screen from neighbouring properties on both sides and also serve to attract many species of bird including Europe‘s smallest bird, the Goldcrest. The mixed hedgerow boundary belongs to the property and is a popular nesting site for sparrows, dunnocks and blackbirds in the spring and summer months. Through a honeysuckle clad arch, a secret footpath through the trees leads to a small wildlife pond abundant in frogs and newts and which dragonflies can be seen emerging throughout summer. The top garden also contains a log cabin which will remain. A large buddleia bush draws bees and a huge variety of moths and butterflies to the garden which in turn attract bats in the evening.

Through a slate path into the bottom garden, this piece of land was acquired in 2003. This was an opportunity to have our own slice of "The Good Life"! The chicken run has changed in size over the years, at one point it housed 13 hens, now smaller we currently keep 6 hens. The coop and chicken run will remain in situ (hens not included) ready for the next Tom and Barbara Good!!! There is nothing better than collecting your own eggs each morning for breakfast and the range of vegetables grown in the numerous vegetable beds not only feed us but provide a welcome addition to the hen‘s diets. The rhubarb bed continues to provide more rhubarb each year. There are also raspberry canes, a strawberry bed and a herb bed which is planted with a range of medicinal and culinary herbs. There is a also a greenhouse, again this will remain. The focal point of this garden though has to be the very large horse chestnut tree. One of the beds this year has been planted with native wildflowers to help support the bee and insect population.

This is a garden planted with privacy and supporting of wildlife as its priority. Due to the planting the garden is totally hidden from view of neighbouring properties and supports a vast array of wildlife including bats, hedgehogs, squirrels and deer.
