Description

Unlisted, The Granary is an attractive double fronted stone and part rendered period cottage under a tiled and slate roof in a quiet position backing on to open fields. Works have been carried out in recent years; in 2004 the property was extended at first floor level to create the bathroom and then in 2008 the garden room was added which has significantly enhanced the accommodation. Granary Cottage appears to be in good order; attributes include pine wood strip flooring in the hall, sitting room and dining room, which also has an attractive bay window. The reception rooms are well proportioned with good ceiling heights whilst the garden room has French windows onto a paved terrace from where there are lovely views. There are two double bedrooms at first floor level with a family bathroom, a smaller study/bedroom and a useful small attic storage room.
The property is approached off the lane onto concrete hard standing with car parking adjoining which is the garage/workshop with aluminium up and over door and light and power. The majority of the garden lies to the side with an attractive area of terrace along the rear facade and adjoining the garden room. Steps lead to the side garden which is principally to lawn with a path to an ornamental pond and oval gravelled seating area. The rear garden is screened from the lane by tall laurel hedging and extends down through a timber pergola to a further area with an apple tree, compost bins and the bunded oil tank.

The village is in a conservation area and has a Grade I Listed church, a village hall and primary school. Nearby is the Udder Farm Shop and there is a small supermarket and fuel station in nearby West Stour. Shaftesbury has an excellent range of facilities including cafes, restaurants, niche retailers, hotels, banks, a small hospital, library, health centre and arts centre. In nearby Gillingham, there is a Waitrose as well as a mainline railway station with services to London Waterloo. For more sophisticated requirements, Sherborne, Bath and Salisbury are within motoring distance. The A303 lies some eleven miles to the north, giving access to the South West and London, via the M3.
