Description

We originally viewed the house 9 years ago when my 4th child was due.

Up until that point we‘d been looking further into Kidbrooke. However Begbie Road was more attractive to us because it was technically still in Blackheath, so that meant a catchment for outstanding schools. It was also closer to Blackheath Standard which has everything you could need locally for groceries or child friendly pubs, the Village, Greenwich Park, The house also conveniently backs onto a huge playing field which regularly host football, cricket and rugby training which is essential with 4 kids in tow.

The obvious benefit was its huge garden offering plenty of space for my four boys to play football and wear themselves out. The large garage in the garden was brilliant to store everything, albeit it needs some upgrading.

Inside, we loved the way it had been opened up into an open plan living, dining and cooking space featuring those beautiful Retro 70‘s style flowing stairs. The whole room allows a lot of natural light in. The garden in fact was so big, we thought about extending the house to make a bigger kitchen area, as it would have little effect on the garden.

It would also be ideal for building a garden office or something larger like a "granny annexe" for family. There doesn‘t seem to be much issue getting planning permission locally for that kind of thing!

Handily there‘s also free on road parking, a rarity in London however with scope to create a driveway at the front. The car can also be driven up the shared side passage way.

Upstairs were three very good sized bedrooms, and a smaller one suitable for our youngest. The fact there were two bathrooms was a godsend, especially in mornings getting ready for school.

The road itself seemed quiet. And surrounded by similar pretty residential streets. This, we thought, was our type of area. Living here has been so peaceful. It‘s convenient, for the kids school. The shops at the standard are a short drive away. The same with the Village itself and Greenwich Park which was a weekend regular visit with the kids. You‘ve also got the Cinema Complex at Greenwich Peninsula and the Rock Climbing at nearby Sutcliffe Park Sports Centre.

The house does need a little updating in places, 4 boys create a lot of noise and wear and tear! But it‘s pretty much cosmetic, and in the main it‘s got everything you need to form a really good starting point. The solid wood Parquet floors for example cost us a small fortune initially, and would be restored to their beautiful original style with a sanding and new coat of lacquer.

It‘s a family home which provides a safe place to raise a young family with the added convenience of being so close to local shops, schools and the main A roads for family days out in to Kent and the Kent coast.

If you work in London you‘re not far from Blackheath or Westcombe Hill stations so commuting is simple too.

As a family we‘ll really miss this place. It‘s a special part of London that whilst having everything on your doorstep, doesn‘t really feel like London.
