Maldon – home to a small population, a picturesque town with spacious detached homes and smaller, town centre retirement properties.
BACKGROUND
Maldon is a town of about 15,000 people on the banks of the Chelmer in the Blackwater Estuary, Essex. It is the starting point of the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation, which runs to Chelmsford. Its estuary setting, relatively easy commute to London and number of new housing developments make it increasingly popular with families.
Maldon was an important Saxon port and the town's Hythe Quay is the residence of several Thames sailing barges, among the last cargo vessels in the world still operating under sail.
Maldon Sea Salt has been produced here since 1882 and it is also the location of the first self-service Tesco supermarket in the country, which was opened in 1956.
TRANSPORT
Maldon lies on the A414, 10 miles east of Chelmsford, and 49 miles north-east of Charing Cross, London, using the A13. The town's railway station closed in 1966 so the nearest stations to Maldon now are Hatfield Peverel, Witham and North Fambridge. Hatfield Peverel, 45 minutes by train from London Liverpool Street, is to the north of the town, whilst North Fambridge is to the south.
AMENITIES
Promenade Park with its many activities including a Splash Park, sand pit and adventure golf, has been a popular leisure location for over 100 years. There are dozens of shops along Maldon High Street and in a new shopping centre at Blackwater Retail Park, on the site of a former rail yard. The town hosts an annual mud race, festival, carnival, regatta and Blackwater Country Show. Nearby is Burnham-on-Crouch, an historic yachting centre known as the "Cowes of the East."
The largest school is Plume, Maldon's Community Academy. The highly rated Ormiston Rivers Academy is in neighbouring Burnham-on-Crouch. There are also many primary schools in the town.
If you are moving to Maldon, several of the larger estate agent chains have branches on the high street. However, for more specialised services, such as surveyors and mortgage brokers, you may want to use PropertyHeads.
Spital Road
Spital Road consists mainly of large properties, parks and lakes, just one mile from Maldon town centre. You will find detached houses in this area, and they all come with a considerable amount of land. 2 bedroom barn conversions here cost anywhere from £400,000 upwards but a 6 bedroom mansion with estuary views and extensive grounds can be in the region of £6million. Occasionally, 2 bedroom waterfront bungalows or flats are available and their average price is £500,000.
Handley Gardens
Handley Gardens is a new housing development in the south of Maldon, designed to blend modern lifestyle with seaside living. It is close to several schools and has all the local community facilities you need. New homes in the Handley Gardens development cost from £350,000 for a 3 bedroom house and from £600,000 for a 5 bedroom property.
If you prefer to stay in the centre of Maldon, which has a small residential area, near the high street you will find that a 1 bedroom flat or maisonette costs around £200,000.

What Is a Cookie?
A cookie is a small file containing a unique identifier that is placed in the web browser of your computer or mobile device. Cookies and related technologies, such as tracking pixels, enable our systems to recognize your device and report information back to us. Such recognition helps the efficient operation of PropertyHeads, including our website and apps.
Does PropertyHeads Use Cookies?
Yes, like most websites and social networks, we use cookies in the course of providing you with our Services.
What Cookies Does PropertyHeads Use, and Why?
We use both session cookies and persistent cookies.
We use a session cookie to identify you during a particular visit to PropertyHeads. Session cookies expire after a short time, or when you close your web browser or app after using PropertyHeads.
We use a persistent cookie to identify you over a long period of time. (For example, if you asked us to keep you signed in, we would use a persistent cookie for that purpose.) Persistent cookies remain on your device for the set period of time specified in the cookie.
We use cookies to operate and improve PropertyHeads, specifically:
To authenticate you and secure our Services: We use cookies to monitor login, session and status data. This allows us to know, for example, whether you are logged in.

Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics, including Google Analytics cookies, to collect anonymous traffic data to help us analyze how members and visitors access and use PropertyHeads, and for other Analytics services relating to website activity and internet usage.
Third-Party Cookies From Content Shared By Members: PropertyHeads members may share content on PropertyHeads that originates from a third-party website or service, and that third-party website or service may set its own cookies when you interact with that content. For example, if a member posts a video from YouTube on PropertyHeads, YouTube may set a cookie when you click to watch the video.
What Other Related Technologies Does PropertyHeads Use, and Why?
Tracking Pixels: Our advertising partners may use tracking pixels or similar technology to measure the success of the sponsored posts or other advertising products they use. A “tracking pixel” (also sometimes called web beacon, or clear GIF) is a tiny piece of code, invisible to the user, placed on a webpage or in an email and used in combination with a cookie, to link a given activity or impression back to the user; the advertiser includes it in its content so it can measure whether our members interact with that content (for example, by clicking to view an offer). We may set our own tracking pixel on an advertiser’s website so we can measure whether our members found the advertiser’s content effective or interesting, by tracking whether the sponsored post prompted members to take advantage of the advertised offer. This information helps us assess whether sponsored posts and other advertising offers are relevant and interesting to our members and successful for the advertiser.

Please note that our systems are not configured to accept browsers’ Do Not Track signals, because no industry standard for handling them has been adopted. If you want to opt out of specific third-party cookies, please consult the third party’s website or privacy policy as well as the cookie settings on your browser.
