Stansted – a transport hub built from medieval times with a selection of modern apartments and large family homes.
BACKGROUND
Stansted, a village in northwest Essex near the Hertfordshire border, is probably best known as the site of London's third airport. However, there has been a settlement there since medieval times. Properly named Stansted Mountfitchet (Stansted meaning "the place of the stone"), it has the remains of a mott-and-bailey castle. Sitting between London and Cambridge, it is popular with people travelling to those two cities. It is also a gateway to unspoilt countryside and Essex villages such as Clavering and Manuden.
TRANSPORT
The village is served by its own railway station, from which trains run south into London Liverpool Street and north to Cambridge, and is two miles from Stansted Airport, linked to the capital by express trains and an express bus service. Trains stopping at Tottenham Hale connect with the London Underground's Victoria Line.
The M11, running from Wanstead in east London to Cambridge, skirts Stansted, connecting with the village and Bishop's Stortford at Junction 8.
Stansted Airport handles over 27m passengers each year. It offers a European route network which is unrivalled in the UK, providing London with more visitors from Europe than any other airport.
AMENITIES
The village has a small number of shops, with many more in Bishop's Stortford. Local attractions, apart from the castle remnants, are the House on the Hill Toy Museum, a restored windmill and the Aubrey Buxton nature reserve.
For sports enthusiasts, there are a few gyms, football pitches, a tennis club and a cricket pitch.
Stansted Mountfitchet has three primary schools (Bentfield Primary School, St Mary's (C of E) Primary School and Magna Carta Primary Academy), and one high school, Forest Hall. Additionally, there are highly rated schools in Bishop's Stortford, including the Hertfordshire and Essex High, Hockerill Anglo-European College, St Mary's Catholic School and the independent Bishop's Stortford College.
If you are planning to buy a property in Stansted, there are three estate agents in the village. For mortgage advice and surveyors you may find more options on PropertyHeads.
Stansted Mountfitchet

A 2 bedroom flat in Silver Street costs £300,000; a 1 bedroom flat in the same neighbourhood will sell for £150,000. A 2 bedroom bungalow near the station costs around £400,000. A 5 bedroom detached house in leafy Brook Road will go for £800,000.
Quendon
A neighbouring, smaller village is Quendon. This is a quaint Essex village, with very few amenities but lots of green space. If you are looking for larger properties in close proximity to Stansted, a 7 bedroom property with extensive grounds in Quendon can be had for just under £4m.

As referred to in our privacy policy, we use cookies and related technologies, such as beacons, pixels, tags and local storage, to provide you with the services accessible through our website and our apps (together, “PropertyHeads” or our “Services”). We use these technologies to provide, protect and improve PropertyHeads, as well as to understand and measure how you use and interact with it.

What Is a Cookie?
A cookie is a small file containing a unique identifier that is placed in the web browser of your computer or mobile device. Cookies and related technologies, such as tracking pixels, enable our systems to recognize your device and report information back to us. Such recognition helps the efficient operation of PropertyHeads, including our website and apps.
Does PropertyHeads Use Cookies?
Yes, like most websites and social networks, we use cookies in the course of providing you with our Services.
What Cookies Does PropertyHeads Use, and Why?
We use both session cookies and persistent cookies.
We use a session cookie to identify you during a particular visit to PropertyHeads. Session cookies expire after a short time, or when you close your web browser or app after using PropertyHeads.
We use a persistent cookie to identify you over a long period of time. (For example, if you asked us to keep you signed in, we would use a persistent cookie for that purpose.) Persistent cookies remain on your device for the set period of time specified in the cookie.
We use cookies to operate and improve PropertyHeads, specifically:

What Other Related Technologies Does PropertyHeads Use, and Why?
Tracking Pixels: Our advertising partners may use tracking pixels or similar technology to measure the success of the sponsored posts or other advertising products they use. A “tracking pixel” (also sometimes called web beacon, or clear GIF) is a tiny piece of code, invisible to the user, placed on a webpage or in an email and used in combination with a cookie, to link a given activity or impression back to the user; the advertiser includes it in its content so it can measure whether our members interact with that content (for example, by clicking to view an offer). We may set our own tracking pixel on an advertiser’s website so we can measure whether our members found the advertiser’s content effective or interesting, by tracking whether the sponsored post prompted members to take advantage of the advertised offer. This information helps us assess whether sponsored posts and other advertising offers are relevant and interesting to our members and successful for the advertiser.

Please note that our systems are not configured to accept browsers’ Do Not Track signals, because no industry standard for handling them has been adopted. If you want to opt out of specific third-party cookies, please consult the third party’s website or privacy policy as well as the cookie settings on your browser.
