Upminster - a pleasant garden suburb with easy access to London. Properties here range from 1 bedroom flats to highly-priced mansions.

BACKGROUND

Upminster is a suburban town to the east of London, and part of the London Borough of Havering. It is 16miles northeast of Charing Cross, and comprises shopping streets plus a large residential area. Historically a rural village, Upminster formed an ancient parish in Essex. The town has good transport links with a station on the London Underground network.

TRANSPORT

Upminster is the eastern terminus of the London Underground's District Line, which runs westward to Richmond and Wimbledon. C2C provides rail services to Fenchurch Street via West Ham; Shoeburyness via Basildon and Southend via Chafford Hundred. London Overground also operates services to Romford from Upminster.

The A127 road to the north of Upminster leads to central London, and the M25 motorway is located about 1.5 miles to the east of the town centre.

AMENITIES

Upminster forms part of the local tourism strategy. It is home to Upminster Windmill, one of the few remaining mills in Greater London and is Grade II listed. The Tithe Barn Museum is also a listed building which contains artefacts of domestic and agricultural use.

The more modern town centre has over 180 shops and restaurants, ranging from independent specialist retailers to more well-known high street names. For more shopping options, it is only eight miles by car or bus to Lakeside Shopping Centre.

Upminster has a golf club and plenty of green space including Cely Woods and Clockhouse Gardens. While there are limited entertainment facilities in the town, nearby Romford offers many daytime and nighttime entertainment options.

Upminster has three outstanding secondary schools - Hall Mead, Coopers' Company and Coborn, and Sacred Heart of St Mary's Girls' School. Good primary schools include St Joseph's Catholic Primary, Upminster Junior, Branfil and Engayne.

If you are looking for a property to buy in Upminster, most of the support services you need can be found around Station Road.
